Annamalai University
Annamalai University, established in 1929 by Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, is one of the largest residential universities in Asia. Spread across a sprawling 900-acre campus in Chidambaram, it is home to over 15,000 students, 2,500 faculty members, and more than 50 departments spanning arts, science, engineering, medicine, and agriculture.

How to Reach from Vadalur
Bus from Vadalur to Chidambaram, then local auto or bus to the university main gate.
Chidambaram railway station is ~2 km from the campus. Auto-rickshaws readily available.

Tips for Visitors
Visit early morning (6–8 AM) when the campus is quiet, the light is golden, and birds fill the trees.
The clock tower is the best photography spot — best captured from outside the main gate at golden hour.
Combine with Nataraja Temple (2 km away) for a full Chidambaram day trip from Vadalur.
Respect the academic environment — avoid visiting during exam periods (March–April, November).
